Anyone know the proper way to trasnlate hebrew names/nicknames?

I am woundering how would you spelll out BennyB in hebrew? Does anyone out there know how that would be done becasue I know you arent suppose to just use the letters right from the alphabet.

Anyone know the proper way to trasnlate hebrew names/nicknames?
Benny is 讘谞讬, B is 讘
Reply:Names cannot directly translated, unless they are hebrew or at leat jewish names. Benny is short for (originally) Benjamin, a biblical name, the youngest of Joseph's sons

In hebrew it is 讘谞讬诪讬谉 - Bin-Yamin

I guess the Last B comes from a second name of surname - I cannot help you there (B's equivalent is 讘 - the letter Bet)

How do I write the name Joshua in Hebrew? Its my sons name %26amp; I want it tatooed so it needs to be 100% accurate
Joshua is Yehoshua in Hebrew, since Hebrew has no "j". Use the one above if you want the exact pronunciation using niqqud (diacritics), but this isnt used now anyways in normal day-to-day life, only for beginners. יהושע is normally written (it actually says yhvsha sinc hebrew has no written vowels.)
Reply:The correct answer and script have been given, so you can trust what they wrote. Anyway, I venture to remind you that tatoos are forbidden by Jewish law, in case you are Jewish. And even if you are not, you may have problems wearing a Hebrew tatoo if by chance you travel in Moslem countries.
Reply:Reminds me of a guy who got his name translated into Japanese for a tattoo. When he went to japan on holiday, at the bar they asked, "why have you got Coca- cola tattooed on your arm?"

KNow of any Hebrew names and their meanings and/or really good Jewish Name books?

The best way to find name meanings in Hebrew is to look on baby name sites. We generally name our children after a relative (deceased relatives for Ashkenazi Jews, sometimes living relatives for Sephardi Jews). I like the one below simply because I like the art work, and the explanations :-)

What does the Hebrew name for God "El Shaddai" mean translated into English?

Please explain what the name really means and where you got your answer. I've already tried wikipedia and wasn't happy with their answer. I'd love to hear from someone who is truely knowledgable on the subject of the Old Covenant names of God. Feel free to tell me as many of them as you know and their true meanings. Thanks

What does the Hebrew name for God "El Shaddai" mean translated into English?
It is usually translated as "God Almighty." El means God. Shaddai is sometimes said to mean a Mountain, and so sometimes it is said that El Shaddai means God of the Mountains. This might refer to the fact that God was seen by Moses on Mt. Sinai.
Reply:God who is enough
Reply:EL=ALMIGHTY GOD

SHADDAI= ALL SUFFICENCY
Reply:pwacheri,

I've also heard it translated, "The Many Breasted One."
Reply:"El Shaddai" is a title identifying Jehovah.

A person may have the title "Worlds Greatest Athlete" but that is not his name.

This title of God Almighty in the bible only refers to Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, %26amp; Jacob.

At Gen. 4:1 shows that Eve knew the name of Jehovah.
Reply:El Shaddai is the mountain god. The name comes from before Judaism and refers to El, the father of all the other gods (the Elohim). His favourite son is the one usually referred to as Ba'al Hadad, the storm God with lightning and Bulls Horns (also a god of fertility, possibly by association with rainstorms for crops) usually associated with the golden calf.

El (shaddai) fills about the same position as Zeus
Reply:Shaddai means Almighty and El Shaddai means God Almighty.
Reply:EL means GOD-( mighty-strong-prominent)

Gen 7:1 %26amp; Isa 9:6

EL Shaddai means:( God Almighty or God all sufficient) Gen 49:24 %26amp; Micah 2:1

The name Shaddai (Hebrew: שַׁדַּי), which occurs both independently and in combination with El, is used as a name of God chiefly in the Book of Job. According to Exodus 6:2, 3, this is the name by which God was known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In the Septuagint and other early translation it was translated with words meaning 'Almighty'.

The root word "shadad" (שדד) means "to overpower" or "to destroy". This would give Shaddai the meaning of "destroyer" as one of the aspects of God. Compare to "Shiva," the destroyer in the Hindu trinity, "creator, preserver, destroyer".

Another theory is that 'Shaddai' is a derivation of a Semitic stem that appears in the Akkadian shadû, 'mountain', and shaddā`û or shaddû`a, 'mountain-dweller'. This theory was popularized by W. F. Albright but was somewhat weakened when it was noticed that the doubling of the medial d is first documented only in the Neo-Assyrian period. However, the doubling in Hebrew might possibly be secondary. In this theory God is seen as inhabiting a mythical holy mountain: a concept not unknown in ancient near eastern mythology (see El), and also evident in the Syriac Christian writings of Ephrem the Syrian, who places Eden on an inaccessible mountaintop.

An alternative view proposed by Albright is that the name is connected to shadayim which means breasts in Hebrew. It may thus be connected to the notion of God’s fertility and blessings of the human race. In several instances it is connected with fruitfulness: “May God Almighty [El Shaddai] bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers . . .” (Gen. 28:3). “I am God Almighty [El Shaddai]: be fruitful and increase in number” (Gen. 35:11). “By the Almighty [El Shaddai] who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts [shadayim] and of the womb [racham] ” (Gen. 49:25).

It is also given a Midrashic interpretation as an acronym standing for 'Guardian of the Doors of Israel' (Hebrew: שׁוֹמֶר דְלָתוֹת יִשְׂרָאֶל), which is commonly found as carvings or writings upon the Mezuzah, a vessel which houses a scroll of parchment with Biblical text written on it, that is situated upon all the doorframes in a home or establishment.

Shaddai was also a late Bronze age, Amorite city on the banks of the Euphrates river, in northern Syria. The site of its ruin-mound is called Tell eth-Thadyen: "Thadyen" being the modern Arabic rendering of the original West Semitic "Shaddai." It has been conjectured that El Shaddai was therefore the "god of Shaddai" and associated in tradition with Abraham, and the inclusion of the Abraham stories into the Hebrew Bible may have brought the northern name with them

I want to write my Hebrew name (in Hebrew alef-bet) but I'm not sure about the inclusion of "bat"...

I know the way to write my name and my father's name but if I wanted to write my "full name" would I include the translation for bat... [tav, bet]....? So if you were going R to L...

(fathers name) tav, bet (my name)

Im sorry to ask it on here but I need to know pretty soon but can't get in contact with anyone who I know will know the answer!

I want to write my Hebrew name (in Hebrew alef-bet) but I'm not sure about the inclusion of "bat"...
First off, I take it you're female, as you're using the word bat instead of ben.

As for using your father's Hebrew name, it's usually only in religious context (e.g. when called to the Torah), and your last name is not used. But if you want it, it goes [your name] bat [your fathers' name].

As an example, if your name is Tamar and your father name is Joseph, your name would be 转诪专 讘转 讬讜住祝.

If it is not in a religious context simply your first and last names would suffice.
Reply:I agree with richmaninthemaking, and just wanted to add that if you are asking someone to pray for you, then it is customary to use the mother's name, rather than the father's name.

The mother's name is used in this context because it's an appeal for mercy.

What is God's Hebrew name and where can it be found in the Bible?

The personal name of the only true God is JEHOVAH.

Jehovah is translated from the Hebrew Tetragrammaton, which means,"he causes to become".These four Hebrew letters are represented in many languages by the letters JHVH or YHWH.

No human today can be certain how it was orginally pronounced in Hebrew.Because Biblical Hebrew was orginally written with only consonants,no vowels. When the language was in everyday use, readers easily provided the proper vowels. In time however, the Jews came to have the superstitious idea that it was wrong to say God's personal name out loud,so they used substitute expressions. And the original pronounciation of the divine name was lost.

Many scholars favour the spelling "Yahweh",but it is uncertain and there is no agreement among them.On the other hand,"Jehovah"is the form of the name that is more readily recognised, because it has been used in English for centuries and preserves, equally with other forms, the four consonants of the Hebrew Tetragrammaton.

You can find the divine name in the New World Translation which has had God's name put back where it belongs.

Or you could try older versions of the King James Bible,in places such as Exodus 6:3;Psalm 83:18;Isaiah 12:2;26:4.

The American Standard Version has the name Jehovah used consistently in the Hebrew Scriptures beginning with Genesis 2:4.

The New American Bible has a footnote on Exodus3:14 favouring the form :Yahweh" but the name does not appear in the main text of the translation.

Many other Bibles also have in their footnotes God's Name and replace it in the text with titles such as "Lord";"God" etc

What is God's Hebrew name and where can it be found in the Bible?
Jews do not casually write any Name of God. This practice does not come from the commandment not to take the Lord's Name in vain, as many suppose. In Jewish thought, that commandment refers solely to oath-taking, and is a prohibition against swearing by God's Name falsely or frivolously (the word normally translated as "in vain" literally means "for falsehood").

I am that I am (Hebrew: אהיה אשר אהיה, pronounced ''Ehyeh asher ehyeh') is the sole response used in (Exodus 3:14) when Moses asked for God's name. It is one of the most famous verses in the Hebrew Bible. Hayah means "existed" or "was" in Hebrew; ehyeh is the first-person singular imperfect form. Ehyeh asher ehyeh is generally interpreted to mean "I will be what I will be", I shall be what I shall be or I am that I am (King James Bible and others). The Tetragrammaton itself may derive from the same verbal root.

The Massorah has a rubric calling attention to these first 4 acrostics. This locks in the name of God according to Hebrew and Biblical scholars. The name also being spelled backwards for Divine reasons, a subject for another time.

Est.1:20 And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.

The Massorah has a special rubric calling attention this acroustic.

Reply:A lot of good answers already, but no one has yet mentioned PSALM 83:18, which says: "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, thou art the most high over all the earth." (KJV) or, in more modern language: "That people may know that you, whose name is JEHOVAH, You alone are the Most High over all the earth." (NWT)
Reply:What you know as the OT was written in Hebrew, so EVERY reference to G-d is in Hebrew!!
Reply:See Exodus 6:3 and Isaiah 26:4 if you have a King James Version. God has a unique name that appears almost 7,000 times in the Hebrew Scriptures alone--more often than any of his titles. Some 1,900 years ago, the Jews superstitiously ceased to pronounce the divine name. Biblical Hebrew was written without vowels. Hence, there is no way to be precise about how Moses, David, or others of ancient times pronounced the four consonants that make up the divine name. Some scholars suggest that God's name may have been pronounce "Yahweh," but they cannot be sure. The English pronunciation "Jehovah" has been in use for centuries, and its equivalent in many languages is widely accepted today.
Reply:The original Hebrew name for God has probably been lost, as it was considered blasphemous to say his name. In most cases, the title of God or Lord was used in place of the proper name out of respect. It is quite possible that the original name was something like Yaveh, or Yehovah.
Reply:I also know of it as Jahwee, even if the meaning of the word itself is god (i think)
Reply:It might be Yahweh or Elohim
Reply:Mainworry is right again!

His name is YHVH!!! Locked in and can NEVER be changed!
Reply:THE BIBLE GIVES NO MENTION TO ANY FORMAL NAME OF GOD. HE ONLY STATES "I AM "
Reply:I believe it is something like Yahweh. Jesus called God Abba, Hebrew for father, in the New Testament, though.
Reply:G-d does clearly state in speaking to Moses that his name is "I Am that I Am." Existence, self-awareness, continual being. However, it is also certain that this is probably a revision of the actual name, as it would never be written or uttered (except by the high priest on Rosh Hashannah in the Temple Holy of Holies). Be careful what you say, as when you call someone's name, you tend to grab their attention. People getting G-d's attention tend to have lots of, ahem, difficulties in their lives. All the other references used in Torah are versions of My G-d or My L-rd, not the real name. The Christian attempt at converting the Tetragrammon to a pronounceable format is laughable and annoying to Jewish people of faith.
Reply:Jehovah. The forbidden Word. Jews were not allowed to utter the name of God as it 'was' sacred. The Jewish religion was the most primitive religion of the Middle East for thousands of years, still is, along side Christian and Muslims. Jews would stone a person to death for saying Jehovah. Remember Jews used to practice infanticide, the killing of children, usually their first born as a sacrifice to 'Jehovah'. Abraham put an end to that probably because the general population of the 'tribes' of Jews was diminishing compared to the other people of the region at that time.
Reply:Jehovah is the English translation of the Hebrew name. I am not sure how to spell the Hebrew name, it begins with a Y, almost sounds like Yaway(not the spelling). You can find God's name in Psalms 83:18, this is the most common verse to find His name. Unfortunately, God's name has been taken out of today's bibles(used to find it pretty easy in the old King James versions), some people out there must not want us to know who He is or what His name is. Best bible that I have looked into is The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures...distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses... I am not affiliated with them, but it is one of the most accurate bible around. Be careful of Catholic Bibles, they add and subtract text to support their doctrines.

Find "jordan", then look to the Lt. and click "c"
Reply:Hi Jordan, if you are Jewish it is considered a desecration of the body to tattoo it. This means that using the Hebrew language would be a double insult. In the Torah it specifically forbids tattooing of the body. If you aren't Jewish consider people you may come into contact who are and think of how they would view the use of their holy language. Do what you want but I'd go for Chinese symbols and forget about offending people. Or just don't tattoo at all. Oh and one more thing, keep in mind that some red dyes contain mercury and can cause horrible scarring. Go to a reputable place.

What a great name. And, since you want to be faithful to the Hebrew, let me suggest you consider that the Bible clearly states that believers are not to cut or mark their bodies. Lev 19:28 "'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD." Out of true respect for your judge and savior, don't get the tatoo at all, it only identifies you as a follower of the culture of the moment rather than what you claim. Take care.

What is the Hebrew name for Mary and it's meaning?

It is "Marayom" it means "Bitterness". The root word "Mara" is also used in regard to the Pool of "Bitter Water" that Moshe led the Exodus to, and made it "Sweet" by casting a "Branch" into it. It is hinted at that it recalled the "Bitter Days" re: the Jewish time in slavery to Egypt. "Yom" being "Day."

What is the Hebrew name for Mary and it's meaning?
Not quite sure but here's what one website says... (They aren't exhaustive though...)
Reply:When I looked up Mary it says Mary or Miriam = Their Rebellion.
Reply:The Hebrew (and the original!) form of this name is "Miryam" (מרים, pronounced: mir-yAm).

The meaning is unknown, but it could be:

*Bitter sea

*Lady of the sea

*Bitterness

*Their rebellion

*Revolutionaries

*Rebelliousness
Reply:The Hebrew form of her name is miryam denoting in the Old Testament only the sister of Moses. In I Par., iv, 17, the Massoretic text applies the same name to a son of Jalon, but, as the Septuagint version transcribes this name as Maron, we must infer that the orthography of the Hebrew text has been altered by the transcribers. The same version renders miryam by Marian, a form analogous to the Syriac and Aramaic word Maryam. In the New Testament the name of the Mary is always Mariam, excepting in the Vatican Codex and the Codex Bezae followed by a few critics who read Maria in Luke, ii, 19. Possibly the Evangelists kept the archaic form of the name for Mary, so as to distinguish her from the other women who bore the same name.

..........................

Also, the root of the name Mary...and the words maritime and mariner come from the ancient goddess Mari of the Sea.
Reply:Mirriam-Bitterness

I can not find the correct Hebrew name for Jesus...?

I always thought it was spelled "Yeshua".

I cannot find any reference to this.

It is pronounced: Yes-shoo-ah...Correct?

Please help.

I can not find the correct Hebrew name for Jesus...?
" “Jesus” is a transliteration, occurring in a number of languages and based on the Latin "Iesus", of the Greek Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs), itself a Hellenisation of the Hebrew יהושע (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ישוע (Yeshua), meaning “YHWH rescues”. "YHWH" is the name of God in the Hebrew tradition, often rendered as "the LORD" in English."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus#Etymo...

"Yeshua, spelled יֵשׁוּעַ (Yēšûă‘) or ישוע in Hebrew was a common name among Jews of the Second Temple Period, and is believed by some scholars and religious groups to be the Hebrew or Aramaic name for Jesus. In modern Hebrew, Yeshu (ישו) and Yeshua (ישוע) are in fact the common transcriptions for Jesus. But the claim that this pronunciation and Hebrew spelling accurately represent the original and historic name of the person known as Jesus remains the subject of ongoing religious and scholarly debate."

"Among the Jews of the Second Temple Period, the Biblical Aramaic/Hebrew name יֵוֹשֻׁשׁוּעַ Yeshua‘ was common: the Hebrew Bible mentions several individuals with this name. This name is a feature of biblical books written in the post-Exilic period (Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles) and was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Strong's Concordance connects the name יֵוֹשֻׁשׁוּעַ Yeshua`, in the English form Jeshua (as used in multiple instances in Ezra, Nehemiah, and 1 and 2 Chronicles), with the verb "to save". This comports with Matthew 1:21: "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins" (NASB)."

"The name יֵוֹשֻׁשׁוּעַ "Yeshua" (transliterated in the English Old Testament as Jeshua) is a late form of the Biblical Hebrew name יְהוֹשֻׁעַ Yehoshua (Joshua), and spelled with a waw in the second syllable. The Late Biblical Hebrew spellings for earlier names often contracted the theophoric element Yeho- to Yo-. Thus יהוחנן Yehochanan contracted to יוחנן Yochanan. However, there is no name (aside from Yehoshua`) in which Yeho- became Ye-."

"The name Yehoshua has the form of a compound of "Yeho-" and "shua": Yeho- יְהוֹ is another form of יָהו Yahu, a theophoric element standing for the personal name of God YHWH, and שׁוּוֹשֻׁעַ shua‘ is a noun meaning "a cry for help", "a saving cry", that is, 'a shout given when in need of rescue'. Together the name would then literally mean, "God is a saving-cry," that is, "shout to God when in need of help"."

Is Spiezer a Hebrew German name ?

I was going over my Genealogy. I am wondering if this is A Hebrew Name.

Is Spiezer a Hebrew German name ?
Two of my favorite places didn't turn up much. Nothing on rootsweb family files, and ssdi only one person, who d. in Chicago. Last stop is google.

I know from experience that sometimes the brick wall in research is that a name has been changed for some reason, making it very rare. Also, names die out, due to sons dying, and only daughters who don't carry on the name.

I found one reference in google, and if by ANY chance it is your relatives, it is an incredible story. Mother in the story was a Spiezer by birth (did she have brothers?), who is described as Jewish but didn't keep Kosher.

This family went into the concentration camps in Europe, thus they absolutely were Jewish. Those circumstances also remind me of one very legitimate reason for some persons who may change a name, literally for survival. It may also be a very good reason for loss of records for your research.

Reply:Hey Moehog,

Swyrich.com let me down, the name was not found there. If you don't get a definitive answer, you can consult the resources below. The Genforum should be able to answer this question with authority. The Shamash.org has many resoruces for this purpose too.
Reply:It could be a geographical name referring to the Swiss town of Spiez (in the canton of Bern). A lot of Jewish names are geographical, but so are a lot of non-Jewish German names. So from the name itself it is not possible to conclude whether its bearers were Jewish or not.

Another thing: Have you checked if the spelling was inverted? That happens with a lot of German words with either "ie" or "ei" spelling in English! You might be looking for the surname Speizer...

Yes, you have the correct translation. The symbols will not change if you put it diagonally down your neck.

If you want a professional translation or font design of Shim'ona, try http://www.my-hebrew-tattoo.com. You can choose many different fonts and not just the one here.

John the Baptist . What's the original hebrew name of "JOHN the BAPTIST" ?

I mean JOHN and BAPTIST .

John the Baptist . What's the original hebrew name of "JOHN the BAPTIST" ?
John the Baptist: Yochanan HaMatbil [יוחנן המטביל]

John: Yochanan [יוחנן]

Yo= God, Chanan= to bless; to amnesty

Baptist: Matbil [מטביל]

From the root T.B.L- to immerse; to baptize
Reply:John is “Yawchanan” or יוחנן Yôḥānnā in Hebrew. I think בפטיזם is Baptist.
Reply:"The name John has a long history that traces back to Hebrew name יוחנן Yôḥānnān, which means "Yahweh is gracious". Yahweh is the name of the god of the Jewish people. Yôḥānnān was the name of several important Jewish rabbis in the Second Temple Period in Palestine, such as Yochanan ben Zakai and Yochanan ben Nuri.

"The name had gained popularity among Jews in Judea and Galilee by the time the area became a province of the Roman Empire in 6 C.E. It was the given name of Yochanan ben Zechariah, a Jewish prophet known in English as John the Baptist. "

What is the Hebrew name for God?
yaweh. is the hebrew word it means i am. ?
Reply:Yaweh i think. It means "I am" or something like that.
Reply:G-d has multiple different names, each representing something different. The one that is most commonly known, otherwise the one that everyone uses, is Hashem ('讛) which literally means, "the name". The other common one is pronouned, "Adonai", which means, "My master". I would tell you more, but I am not confortable with the idea, sorry!
Reply:Yahwey is the Catholic version

Jehovah is recognised world wide.
Reply:YHWH, Yahweh, or Jehovah. There are others, though.
Reply:Yahweh I believe. I went to Catholic school.
Reply:Yeshua is God's name in Hebrew, but there is also Abba, meaning Father, also Elohim.
Reply:definitly NOT yaweh or whatever. maybe thats how catholics or christians say it. in judaism, god has many names like elohim (mostly used when praying or in the prayer book) , or sh'dai (mostly found on mezuzahs), or hashem (meaning 'the name') or adonai. but we don't really say gods name in vain, so you dont hear people swearing or yelling to hashem.

Michael......... Boy........ Hebrew......... Who is like God

Since Yeshua spoke hebrew and evidently aramic, why would he take on a greek name?

when i met some one of another nationality i don't change my name and how it is said to please others?

why was this liberty taken with his name?

Almost the entire Old Testament was written in Hebrew during the thousand years of its composition. But a few chapters in the prophecies of Ezra and Daniel and one verse in Jeremiah were written in a language called Aramaic.

Since Yeshua spoke hebrew and evidently aramic, why would he take on a greek name?
There is nothing wrong with it {if} Jesus means "savior" in greek meaning, if you speek greek this is how you would call out his name, so in english we should be calling him by the name of savior since this is his attribute and since Yeshua is the hebrew way of saying savior this is why we call him by that name, also this is the name the messenger told Miriam the wife of Yosef she should call him.

" You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free".
Reply:In the "Askers rating" It almost sounds as if Lyndalee is offended by what is written, if so it would be nice for her to explain why did she take it as in offense. Report Abuse

Reply:Jesus may have spoken Hebrew and Aramaic, but the prevailing language of educated peoples of the time was Greek.

It is distinctly possible that the disciples spoke all three languages. Some of them certainly did and after Pentecost there was no difficulty.

Jesus address people in the language best understood by the people he was talking to.

Unlike some YA subscribers who insist on mixing up Hebrew and English when communicating in English.

You have to accept the terminology or names given to things and people in there language and not insist they have it wrong because your background is different.

This is how wars start.
Reply:It is like asking鈥?br>

Why was the bible translated in English when it is not the original language?

Daniel, Ezra and Jeremiah 鈥?are these Hebrew names? Do we have to know or restore the Hebrew-Aramaic translation? Otherwise all the bible using these names are inaccurate =)

Are the names in the old testament are in its original form? Or they were also translated? I think you should think of this too? =)

Reply:He never did! The people who translated the Bible from Hebrew to greek

took that liberty, as they like to hear the names of their mighty ones

in the names they give, so Y'shua was changed to greek thinking.

Also there is evidence to support the fact that the whole of the NT was

written in Hebrew %26amp; then translated into greek.
Reply:I think the New Testament was written in Greek.

I think the meaning was considered more important at that time then the spelling or pronunciation. Greek was the English at that time but was supplanted by Latin, I think I remember. So calling him Jesus made him and his story and message more universal which I think was an important theme going forward.

ALTHOUGH I think I like the name Yeshua more because of its authenticity and the sound and appearance as well as it relationship to the Old Testament forerunner Joshua which I'd also guess is Yeshua. My oldest son is Joshua James I think it was a nice Bibliosity to it, Do You?

Oh I missed in your question I don't think Yeshua was physically present went the Bible was written he had ascended into heaven and I am thinking he'd have been cool with that, but he definitely hated sin but loved sinners of whom I am chief!
Reply:Well, Jesus was Iesous in Greek. We get Jesus from the Latin Iesus, from the Greek Iesous. Actually, many names change depending on the language you speak. John is a good example. It is Juan in Spanish, Johann in German, Giovanni in Italian, etc.

Anyway, God inspired the New Testament to be written in Greek. Iesous is how Jesus' name was preserved. And bible truth has nothing to do with superstitions that requires uttering names in certain ancient vocal intonations, especially since today nobody knows how ANY Greek or Hebrew word in Jesus' day was pronounced.
Reply:Your question raises more important questions!

Aside from Christian writers....Did Jesus or his disciples leave any writings behind...? How would anyone know what Jesus really said... word-for-word?

Is this not important to have the authentic and completely accurate scrips of All the disciples and Jesus... such as an example of todays modern stenographer or court reporter for accuratecy and authenticity .....Since JUST ONE WORD OR TENSE can change the entire meaning of what was said !?!?

Why are the earliest existing writings of Jesus from the second century and written in Greek !?...when Jesus and his disciples were supposedly Jews who would plausibly write hebrew (If they did write) long before the second century?

How can the Greek Text canon, with its UNKNOWN writers own words of what they thought the gospal characters MIGHT HAVE SAID !?!????... Be called "The word of God" !!????

another words...

Since the Christian writers of the Greek Text canon were not eye witnesses to Jesus or his disciples... How did the EXACT word-for-word dialogues or ANY authentic dialogues of the gospel characters materialize ....without Fabrication or Invention from Christian writers?

Reply:Just as the name John (in English) is Johann in German, Iohannan in Hebrew, and Juan in Spanish, so too is Jesus' name translated for different languages. When my Spanish speaking friends call me Diego, do I object? Of course not! Neither would Jesus, IMHO.
Reply:Chinese people do.

Anyhow, the NT was written in Greek...the tongue of the day in that area.
Reply:He didn't. Someone else did.
Reply:He didn't take on a Greek name, they give it to him. Good question God Bless:)
Reply:Grace !

Reply:His name is Yeshua he didnt take on a Greek name. Yet, as your name would be different in Greek when it was put into Greek your name would be the Greek words for what your name means, my Name is David, it means beloved of The Lord, in Spanish it is pronounced Dahveed (pronounced) in Hebrew it is spelled in Hebrew and prounounce Dohvid

In the Land of Israel the Greeks had been in charge before the Romans, Greek was the common tongue throughout the world from Alexander the great the Greek.

When the New Testament was written it was put into Greek for all the world, although originally in Hebrew letters and the Gospel writers, who were all Hebrew Jews.

During the holocaust and before in the Polish revivals Messianic Jews led many to the Messiah Yeshua/Jesus. and even in the death camps people like

Corie Ten Boon (The Hidding Place) led many to the Messiah, she was put in concentration camp for being in the family that hid Jewish people in thier home in Holland.

Why not come to the Messiah?

Leviticus 17:11 says "without the shedding of blood there is no atonement for the soul.

Isaiah 52:12-53:12 says one will come and be exalted but first marred more than any man and be rejected and lay down his life as a lamb to make forgivenss for our sins.

What does the hebrew name meekhael (michael) mean in hebrew?

Darman is right. MI- in Michael means "who?" KHA is an abbreviated Hebrew form of KMO, that is "like, compared to", and EL is a Divine name. So "who is like God"? More an exclamation that a real question, like in the Song of the Sea, sung by Israel after the parting of the Red Sea.

What does the hebrew name meekhael (michael) mean in hebrew?
It's actually a pretty cool name - I'm no master of the language, but I did play with it some - in Hebrew it's spelled Mem-yodh-kaph-aleph-lamedh and means literally "Who is like Elohim?" meaning "who is like God?" (Elohim roughly translates as God-of-gods). Hope this sheds some light, because that's what he enjoys the most. Ask him. I did, and he answered - and still does. In fact, ask him anything, if you dare - just understand he answers his way, not ours. And He's Good.

Ya'ara (讬注专讛) means "honeycomb" and "honeysuckle" (flower).

Keith is probably derived from the British word cet meaning "wood".

Here are some common Hebrew names (all masculine) with a similar meaning:

Ilan (讗讬诇谉)- tree

Ya'ar (讬注专)- forest

Amir (讗诪讬专)- tree top

Reply:Not sure exactly what is your question.

Ya'ar means forest.

Ya'arit can be used as the female form of it.

Ya'ara is a flower (Etruscan honeysuckle).

Matar [诪讟专- rain]

Ma'or [诪讗讜专- lighting; brightness]

Moran [诪讜专谉- viburnum (plant)]

Mor [诪讜专- myrrh (plant)]

Pri [驻专讬- fruit]

Porat [驻讜专转- fertile (name of a place in Israel)]

Nice words that start with "Peh" (P):

Pardes [驻专讚住- orchard]. This Hebrew word comes from the same Persian origin like the English "paradise" (garden of Eden).

Pashosh [驻砖讜砖- warbler (bird)]. Often describes something or someone who is tiny and adorable.

Perach [驻专讞- flower]. The "ch" consonant is pronounced as in the Scottish "loch".

Parpar [驻专驻专- butterfly]

Pe'er [驻讗专- magnificence; gorgeousness]

As for words that start with "Mem" (M), we have loads of them.

The letter Mem has several functions in the Hebrew conjugating, and five out of our seven "buildings" (molds of verbs) use this letter at the begining of the word for the participles, or for verbs in the present tense.

Does anyone have a pretty hebrew name for Cecelia?
http://www.my-hebrew-name.com/names.cgi?...

Your name is a latinate feminine form of the Roman family name Caecilius, which was derived from Latin caecus- "blind".

I don't know of any Hebrew names that mean "blind", but during the Mishna time the term for blind was "sagi nahor", Aramaic for "full of light" (I know, we have a twisted sense of humor...).

So your name can be anything related to light:

Or [אור]- light

Orly [אורלי]- a light for me

Lior [ליאור]-

Ori [אורי]- my light

Orah [אורה]- bright light

Meirah [מאירה]- illuminate (feminine singular verb)

Maor [מאור]- light source

Orit [אורית]- small light

Nogah [נוגה]- Venus (planet). Literaly: gleam

Levanah [לבנה]- moon. Literally: white one.

Esther [אסתר]- star (Persian)

Ayelet [אילת]- doe; female deer ("Ayelet HaShachar", the dawn's doe, is another name for the morning star)

Zohar [זוהר]- brightness; shine

Zoharah [זוהרה]- brightness; shine (another form)

Neri [נרי]- my candle

Keren [קרן]- ray of light

Keshet [קשת]- rainbow
Reply:Oh, I forgot to translate Lior: It means "I have a light", or literally: "to me, light" Report Abuse

Reply:you know , it doesn't have to sound similar to Cecelia. you could pick any one that you think sounds nice, or that you feel is you.

Sure, why not? Many people who are not Jewish are named David, Joshua, Samuel, Nathan, Jonathan, Myriam, Esther, Ruth, Daniel, Simon, Hannah, and a host of other very common names.

About half of the first names used in Western countries are Hebrew or of Hebrew origin, via Greek and Latin. Just go ahead and add another one.

How barack obama got his name? barack is a hebrew name and obama is an arabic name?

My guess is his parents.

How barack obama got his name? barack is a hebrew name and obama is an arabic name?
Barack is the Swahili derivative of the Arabic word Baraka in Arabic or Berakhah in Judaism, a blessing recited during a ceremony.

Hussein is a derivative of the Arabic word Hasan which means Handsome.

Arabic is not synonymous with Muslim as American is not synonymous with Christian. Report Abuse

Reply:Not to be a smart ***, but his parents named him.

ana
Reply:His full name is Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., named after his father Barack Hussein Obama, Sr.

It sounds like a very Arabic (Muslim) name. It seems his name may have come from his father's Muslim religion.

Barack means "blessed", and its suggested that his name was originally "baraka" (an Arabic name), but was changed later.
Reply:More slander on Barack Obama's Muslim roots or lack of them (personally).

What is the hebrew name for 'mathew'?

with english spelling too, thanks...and how do you translate a spanish surname to hebrew? it's a '-cion' surname, and i don't know how to substitute the letter to hebrew letter

What is the hebrew name for 'mathew'?
Matthew is derived from the Hebrew name 诪转转讬讛讜 [mattityahu].

Matthew the Evangelist is known in Hebrew as 诪转讬 [mati], not to be mistaken with Mattathias HaCohen.

What is your surname? The suffix "-cion" is transliterated as 住讬讜谉-.

e.g.:

Concepci贸n- 拽讜谞住驻住讬讜谉

Devoci贸n- 讚讜讜住讬讜谉

Educacion- 讗讚讜拽住讬讜谉
Reply:It'd be spelled Matityahu or, depending on where your family is from, Matisyahu. (Though I do know one person who's name is Mathew but uses the Hebrew name Moshe).

In terms of the -cion name, do you think you could put up the whole name, because I'm not quite sure what you mean by substituting a letter since you want it in english letters anyway.

Hope this helps!
Reply:Either 诪转讬 Matey, or 诪转转讬讛讜 Matityahu.

I don't know how you pronounce the '-cion' but it sounds like 爪讬讜止谉 to me, that would sound like 'tsion'.

Hebrew Name?

Can someone tell me how my name would be pronounced in Hebrew? It is Susan, also my son who's name is Jonathan, my husband's name is David. As I understand, we all have Hebrew names. Thanks, Sue

Hebrew Name?
Yes, you all have Hebrew names.

Susan is written 砖讜砖谉 and pronounced "shoshan" (sho-SHAN). It means "lily", or "rose" in Hebrew. Another form of this name is 砖讜砖谞讛, shoshana.

Jonathan is written 讬讜谞转谉 and pronounced "yonatan" (yo-na-TAN, or YO-na-tan in Modern Hebrew). It means "god has given" in Hebrew.

David is written 讚讜讚 and pronounced "david" (da-VID). It means "beloved" in Ancient Hebrew.
Reply:JONATHON is an Anglicized form of the Hebrew YONATAN, derived from the word NATAN -NUN TAV NUN - meaning GIVE. JONATHON - GOD HAS GIVEN

DAVID is from the Hebrew, meaning BELOVED

SUSAN - is from the Hebrew SHOSHANA, meaning LILY
Reply:Susan would be: "Shoshana"- pronounced "show-shah-nah"

David would be; "David"- pronounced "doh-veed"

Jonathan would be: "Yonatan"- pronounced "yoh-nah-tahn"

How did a Jew get a Greek version (Jesus) of the Hebrew Name Joshua or Yeshua.?

His real name was Joshua or Yeshua. That's what all the people who knew him probably would have called him. But when the various writers of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) decided to write about him, they wrote in what was the most internatiionally used language in their region in those days (Greek) so that as many people as possible would be able to understand their "Good News". So in their writing they translated his name to the nearest Greek equivalent (Jesus). The way his name is rendered into a langauge is not important. The meaning of his name (Savior) is.

Hebrew Name?

I was just wondering what the Hebrew name for Makenna would be, if there is one.

Hebrew Name?
Makenna is a variant of McKenna.

McKenna comes from the Gaelic surname Mac Cionnaith, which means "son of CIONAODH".

Cionaodh is the Irish form of CIN脕ED.

Cin谩ed means "born of fire" in Gaelic. This was the name of the first king of the Scots and Picts (9th century). It is often Anglicized as Kenneth.

What is the meaning of Roth, a Hebrew name?

Roth name is a Hebrew name

What is the meaning of Roth, a Hebrew name?
The name Ruth (专讜转) comes from the Hebrew word "Re'uth" [专注讜转], meaning friendship.

The connection between Ruth and Re'uth is not immediate for the common Hebrew speaker, though.

The names of the Book of Ruth are really interesting because they are almost allegorical: each name matches the "role" of the person in the story.
Reply:Roth is not a Hebrew (family) name. It's a German Jewish name, like Maus explained.

On the other hand - Ruth is a Hebrew first name (pronounced "Root" in Hebrew)

As far as I know, "Ruth" doesn't have a meaning in Hebrew and it first appeared in the "Book of Ruth".

Ruth was a Moabite who joined to the Jewish nation (well, that's a VERY brief summary of the book in one sentence)
