How do I pronounce this hebrew name?

My penpal's name is Yochana and I'm going to meet her in a month and I'm wondering what was the correct way in pronouncing her name? Is it Yo-Hanna Yo-Canna, other? I just don't want to embarrass myself, haha.

How do I pronounce this hebrew name?
R you sure about the name

It is the first time I hear this name
Reply:to be sure, when you meet her, just say hi, i am (your name), and she should say her name... or someone else will say it and you can repeat it. also, she won't expect you to know how! so don't worry.
Reply:there's no such name in hebrew..
Reply:The ch is pronounced is a sound in the throat, like in the German pronunciation of Bach or the Hebrew name Chaim (if you know how to pronounce it). It's like a cross between a k and a h. If you can't pronounce it, it's probably best to pronounce it as an H.

Stress is on the next-to-last syllable: Yo-CHA-na.

EDIT: It is definitely a Hebrew name, though not a particularly common one. It means, "The Lord is gracious", essentially a feminine form of "John", which in Hebrew is "Yochanan".
Reply:Interesting spelling for a hebrew name. I too have never heard of that name. I looks more like a german name (johanna). I would just simply ask how she pronounces it. It might be kinda of funny to say you acutally asked on the internet- an ice breaker of sorts.

good luck.
Reply:yo-shanna
