Hey all, I've had interest in learning the Hebrew language, and I thought I should start by figuring out how to write my name in Hebrew.
My name is Alex, and I believe the way you write that in Hebrew is "讗诇拽住". Is that correct?
Also, if you could help me with the vowel point system, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
How do I transliterate my name from English to Hebrew?
As the posters above wrote- it's 讗诇讻住
Normally we have rules for transcriptions (or should I say 'guidelines') that we Hebrew speakers follow; it's not something dramatic if you wrote Alex with Kuf, but it is just not common.
Today it is customary to transcript X as 拽住 (e.g- 讗讜拽住讬诪讜专讜谉, 讗拽住驻专住讬讜谞讬讝诐, 讗讜专转讜讚讜拽住讬...), but in the past 讻住 was more common; the name 讗诇讻住 (or 讗诇讻住谞讚专) is the only survivor of this anachronistic norm.
There are other "rules" or norms, but you will get them pretty quick as soon as you will start to read things for yourself. Anyway, you may contact me if you want to know some of them...
Reply:I believe it is 讗诇讻住.
Reply:more commonly 讗诇讻住 or 讗址诇值讻旨职住 (short of 讗诇讻住谞讚专)
