What was the name of the ancient Hebrew people who placed the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Qumran cave?

Was it the Assens or something like the Essens?

Reply:This month's issue of BAR (Biblical Archaeology Review) has an article in it that says the Essenes were almost certainly NOT the Qumran community, and that the idea that they were was based on faulty reasoning several decades ago.
Reply:You are very nearly correct. It was the Essenes, a monastic group from the first century AD.
Reply:Essenes
Reply:Assscenes, not sure how you spell it.
