I am just curious. How many Christians know the Hebrew name for the Old Testament?

Ps Torah is not the right answer.

I am just curious. How many Christians know the Hebrew name for the Old Testament?
Tenach
Reply:It's Tanakh. The Jewish people only

use the first five Books. Therefore

the name Tanakh is sufficient because

it is an acronym for the Hebrew Bible.

Do you know the Greek name?
Reply:ineresting, i would lkie to know that one myself.
Reply:Tanakh
Reply:I'm not going to answer the question to this because I am not christian.... the question isnt what is the old testament (what books does it consist) but its asking "how do you say "the old testament" in Hebrew?"
Reply:Tanakh
Reply:Well, to be exact, the Old Testament and the Tanakh are not the same thing. The Old Testament in Hebrew is called "HaBrith HaYeshanah" ("the old covenant"), and this term refers exclusively to the Christian division of the scripts.

The Old Testament includes the Tanakh (i.e- Torah, Nevi'im, Ktuvim) in a slightly different order, and the Deuterocanonical books.
Reply:Tanakh
Reply:You mean it's not the Old Testament?

That's a no
Reply:Thanks for the question- I learned something new! I thought it was the Torah, even though I know that only refers to the first 5 books (I even knew the name 'Pentateuch'!). I saw the answers 'Tanakh' and looked it up and found that it includes the Torah and other groups of books- interesting.

And I consider myself an extremely Liberal Christian (I'm UU), so I may not be the audience you were looking for, but I thought I'd post anyway and say 'thanks'.
Reply:T.orah ("Teaching" 5 books of Moshe)

a

N.evi'im (The Prophets)

a

K.etuvim ("Writings" or historical books)
Reply:Tanach

Torah technically refers to only the first five books of the Tanach.
Reply:the Torah is the 5 books of Moses, the rest is another name, the Talmud is the commentary

but good job gettin people to do some research and trace thier christianity back to Moses, Ibrahim and Isaac/Ishmael!

once there they will continue to go to Egyptology and beyond to see we have been around a very, very long time and always in need of spirituality, peace and love before the idea of a mean man god of the sky to kill all unbelievers
Reply:Tanakh :)

but i am not a christian, so my answer does not count right?
Reply:Would it be Textus Receptus

Reply:Israel never had an Old Testament and the Old Testament is a corruption of Hebrew Scriptures with the insertion of pagan worship of a man-God called Zeus who you will find mentioned in the New Testament (Acts of the Apostles 14:12-13) and if you find Jupiter in your Old Testament, that is the Latin version of the Greek Zeus.
