"Isa / Essa" = Hebrew name Esau, not Hebrew name Yehshua/Yahshua (Joshua). Another Qur'an mistake?

Whoever told Mohammad that Jesus's name was Isa (a.k.a. "Esau") must have gotten their information from a corrupted source.





It appears the source of that corruption comes from a group of Arabic "Christians" called the Nestorians. The "heresies" of the Nestorians conform closely to what would soon become (and is today) Mohammadean ideology.





They added to the story of Jesus's birth and omitted certain parts which they found "illogical". For example, the Qur'anic story of Jesus, which is curiously named after Jesus's MOTHER, claims that Jesus spoke immediately after birth, claiming to be a prophet of Allah. It changes the words said to be spoken by Gabriel to Mary by omitting a reference to the "Holy Spirit" by Gabriel. This reference directly contradicts the Mohammadean claim that GABRIEL is the Holy Spirit. It also quotes Jesus in a way which makes Jesus appear to ARGUE with previous scripture which had not yet been written.





Are these intentional mistakes, or simple errors?

You KNOW that the Holy Scriptures of the Holy Bible are from theOnly True God Jehovah and the account of Jesus' birth and life are contained within these four gospels and the Qur'anic story of Jesus is totally false and you know where that originated from. They are mistakes because the 'source' was NOT inspired by the Holy Spirit..., who is NOT Gabriel the Arch Angel who brought the message to Mary.

Reply:Yeshua was a renegade Jew. The name Jesus did not exist in Hebrew or Aramaic, and was attributed to him later.





The Hebrew for Yaakov's brother was Eisav.





How things are said in other languages is not terribly relevant. He might be called Ying-Tong somewhere else.

Reply:umm in arabic Jesus is called Isa so the Quran is not a mistake.

If Allah was to call Jesus Savior it would contradict the teachings of Allah, which is unusual being as he says he is the same God. So Allah became forgetful forgetting he had a Son and forgeting he insisted he be named Yeshua because he would save his people from their sin.





God says the name Jesus is because he would save his people friom their sins if Muslims insist that Isa is the name in Arabic then the name Isa surely means he is our savior which is against the teachings of their Allah...There is nothing rational about following a dead man who disagreed with God.
Reply:Since the Christian bible ("new testament") was written in Greek, and Jesus' name was also only written in Greek, the "Yeshua" thing is just a guess and given to Hebracize Jesus' name. Plus, Muslims believe that they have the "correct" version of the Jesus story, so trying to argue from your bible doesn't make sense.
Reply:I think it's a matter of translation, but for your information in Arabic custom a son is referred to as "Ahmed, son of Rehab, or whoever."

Reply:well if you read a bible in english, the names of the people are anglicized and not the actual hebrew names either. obviously since the quran is written in arabic, the names were translated over to arabic for arabic-speakers just like in our bibles the hebrew names are translated into the english language.

In one of your pages, you report that Mr. Jochen Katz claims that there is a contradiction in the Qur鈥檃n, when it in one place (2:97) identifies the angel Gabriel as the entity which brought the Qur鈥檃n to the Prophet Muhammad (sAas), while in another place (16:102) it identifies the entity as 'the Holy Spirit'. Muslims do not see any contradiction in this, but instead take 'the Holy Spirit' to be a name or title for Gabriel, since after all angels and spirits are both celestial beings.





However, to a Christian, the Holy Spirit is part of God in the Trinity and thus can hardly be the same as an angel. So, Christians are not satisfied with the Muslim response.





But did Christians at the time of the revelation of the Qur鈥檃n have the same understanding as today? Mainstream Christians certainly did, but there were many Christian movements that are now considered heretical, such as the Nestorians (who believed that Jesus only became divine as an adult) and the Monophysites (who believed that Jesus was only divine and not human), which were still popular at the time of the Prophet (sAas) even though they had first come onto the scene one or more centuries previously
Reply:They are just different forms of the name taken from different localities. Just like the English John is Sean in Irish, Juan in Spanish, Jean in French, Gianni in Italian.


Also Gabriel is not the Holy Spirit, he ia an Angel and a messenger of God who tells Mary that she will recieve the Holy Spirit and through that a baby.


May I ask, are you reading the Quran from the Arabic or an English translation?
