Reply:Jesus is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew name variously rendered as Jehoshua, Nu.13:16; Jeshua,Ezra,2:2; or Joshua,Ex.17:9. Both Acts, 7:45; and He. 4:8; show that Jesus is the same name as Joshua. Jesus means Jehovah-Savior, Jehovah our Salvation, or Jehovah is Salvation.

讬讛讜砖讜注 "Yehoshua" is the other name of Joshua (as in ben Nun, the one who took over after Moses). If you read the story of Joshua, he is called sometimes 讬讜砖讜注 "Yoshua" and sometimes 讬讛讜砖讜注 "Yehoshua" and the places in the narrative where Joshua is written with the extra 讛 are where he goes an extra step in sanctifying G-d.

If you scroll down on that page, you'll see that the name "Jesus" translates to "Yeshu", but that the name "Jesus" was a translation to English characters from the Greek, which was somewhat-bungled translation from the Aramaic "Yehsua".

So, to translate "Jesus" you get "Yeshu", but if you go back before the "Jesus" you get the other names for the same man.
Reply:Yeshua.

if you call him that, your Hebrew speaking friends will, no doubt, smile.
