I plan to convert to Judaism when I get older. After all is done and you are converted, do you choose whatever Hebrew name you want or is there a certain way?
thanks in advance.
How do you choose a Hebrew name?
Normally when you are born you are given a Jewish name of a dead relative. This ensures that the person lives on through you. You will get a non-Hebrew name also. My Hebrew name is Velvil and my non-Hebrew name is William. Hope you understand. If you convert you will have the opportunity to choose the relative whom you wish to be named for. The rabbi will help you with changing that name into Hebrew for you. May you find the happiness you seek and the love you deserve.

Reply:Many Jewish babies get their Hebrew names a week after they are born; in some cases, though, the English name already has a Hebrew equivalent.
Sarah = Sara
Deborah = Divorah
So these are often taken as the Hebrew name.
But if there's a Hebrew name that you especially like, or feel a connection to, then keep that in mind. If and when you are in the process of converting, ask the Rabbi for some guidance and tell him/her about your preferred name :)
Reply:Well, if you do start studying to convert to Judaism, you will have to read the Tanakh. There are many names there that you can choose. Most Jews were given Hebrew names by their parents when they were born. You would be lucky to be able to choose a name for yourself. Oh, and anything but Jesus...LOL!
Reply:Go to the kitchen and drop the silverware into a pail. It should sound very Jewish like "Ishmael", "Methuselah", "Meshack", or "Abednego" when it bounces around inside. That's how you get a Jewish name.

Reply:Maybe ask a priest to pick one that suits ur personality?
Reply:I like the name Jonah
