The day of atonement is Yom Kippur, it occurs on the 10th day of Tishri and it is a day to set aside to atone for the sins of the past year. By custom the Jews will fast, not work and attend synagogue. Tishri is the 7th month of the Jewish year, during which many important holidays occur. This year it is begins at sundown on September 21st.

Hebrew name is Yom Kippur %26amp; it's begins at sunset on 21st Sept 2007ending on 22nd Sept 2007.Yom Kippur is probably the most important holiday of the Jewish year. Many Jews who do not observe any other Jewish custom will refrain from work, fast and/or attend synagogue services on this day. Yom Kippur occurs on the 10th day of Tishri. The holiday is instituted at Leviticus 23:26 et seq. The name "Yom Kippur" means "Day of Atonement," and that pretty much explains what the holiday is. It is a day set aside to "afflict the soul," to atone for the sins of the past year. In Days of Awe, I mentioned the "books" in which G-d inscribes all of our names. On Yom Kippur, the judgment entered in these books is sealed. This day is, essentially, your last appeal, your last chance to change the judgment, to demonstrate your repentance and make amends.

It is a day of complete fasting and solemn prayers which is the culmination of several weeks of such prayers in we Jews beseech God to pardon their sins and decree that the following year should be for the good.
Reply:it should be called the days of atonment...it's been going on everyday since 2002.... Mother Nature doesn't like humans, their relgions are destroying the earth... an humans don't seem to care... so every day she would ask the guardians is it not better to just evolve them out of existance... As it is her will is winning because humans are still practicing religion... Look at the christian infestation on the planet earth... that is the basis for her decision and in the end what she leaves on the earth will be what is to be.... take a look at christianity are they looking to free us or are they still trying to rule us? The world better start making choices because the christians would love to see her die... and until there is significant changes in the human race... it's headed for exitinction....
